Frequently Asked Questions
How much time is needed for matted fur removal?
It depends on how many areas are matted. Two or three areas, such as behind both ears and the tail, need 30 minutes. Four or five areas, adding behind the neck and under the body, need 1 hour. More widespread matting needs 1.5 -2 hours. Your groomer confirms the time at drop-off.
How can I prevent matting between grooms?
Brush down to the skin two to three times a week with a slicker brush, then check with a metal comb. Focus on the areas that rub: behind the ears, armpits, collar line, under the body and around the tail. Use a detangling spray on a dry coat, dry thoroughly after baths, and book a full groom every 6–8 weeks or a wash & dry every 4 weeks.
Which matting level should I book?
Count the matted areas on your dog. Two or three areas, such as behind both ears and the tail, need 30 minutes. Four or five areas, adding behind the neck and under the body, need 1 hour. More widespread matting needs 1.5 hours. If you’re unsure, book the longer option, because we can’t extend appointments on the day.
Will my dog need to be shaved?
Not always. Light matting can often be brushed out gently. When mats sit tight against the skin, brushing them out hurts, so clipping the area short is the kinder choice. We check the coat at drop-off and agree the approach with you before we start. Your dog’s comfort always comes before keeping length.
